Dewar softball off to perfect start
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Lady Dragons are off to a perfect start this season, dominating the competition and capturing the Oilton High School Fastpitch Tournament championship last week.

— Lady Dragons soar past Luther in shutout win In a commanding performance, the Dewar Varsity Lady Dragons softball team surged to a 7-0 victory over the Luther Lady Lions squad on Aug. 15, fueled by a dominant first inning and solid defensive play throughout the game.

The Lady Dragons wasted no time asserting their dominance, capitalizing on their first opportunity at bat with an explosive four-run first inning. Emmy Hall started the scoring with a clutch single, driving in a run. Brooke Thomas and Jaycie Berry followed suit, each contributing to the early lead with a walk and a productive groundout, respectively. An error from the Lions’ defense added another run to Dewar’s tally.

Maintaining their momentum, Dewar extended their lead in the third inning as Jaycie Berry and Kinsey Maldonado contributed RBI plays, cementing their advantage.

On the defensive side, pitcher Brooke Thomas showcased her prowess on the mound, holding the Lions to four hits over four scoreless innings while striking out three batters and issuing just two walks. The Lady Dragons’ defense remained flawless, committing zero errors and showcasing sharp fielding skills, led by Bre Harvell with multiple crucial plays.

Offensively, Emmy Hall was a standout performer, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, while Bre Harvell and Emma Bear each contributed two hits. Dewar’s aggressive base running strategy paid off with a total of 11 stolen bases, further solidifying their control of the game.

— Dewar dominates Mulhall-Orlando 18-0 In a dominant display of offensive firepower, the Dewar Varsity Lady Dragons softball team overwhelmed the Mulhall-Orlando Varsity Panthers with an impressive 18-0 victory last Thursday, highlighted by a monumental first inning barrage.

The Lady Dragons wasted no time in asserting their dominance, exploding for a staggering 11 runs in the opening frame. Brooke Thomas set the tone with a pivotal double, driving in two runs early on. Kyla Bear and Bre Harvell followed suit with a flurry of hits, combining for several RBIs to propel Dewar to an early lead.

Not content with their first-inning onslaught, the Lady Dragons continued their offensive onslaught in the second inning, adding seven more runs fueled by key hits from Korbyn Anderson, Temperance Parker, and Dakota Duke.

Pitcher Temperance Parker anchored Dewar’s defensive effort with a flawless performance on the mound, holding the Panthers hitless and scoreless over three dominant innings while striking out six batters and issuing no walks. The Lady Dragons’ pitching and defensive cohesion were complemented by a standout offensive performance, with Kyla Bear leading the charge with four RBIs and multiple hits, including a perfect 2-for-3 at the plate.

Overall, Dewar’s disciplined plate approach and aggressive base running strategy paid dividends, with the team amassing a total of six stolen bases and six walks. The Lady Dragons also showcased their defensive prowess, committing zero errors and maintaining airtight fielding throughout the game.

With this commanding win, the Dewar Varsity Lady Dragons continue to build momentum in their season, displaying both offensive potency and defensive resilience on their path to success.

— Lady Dragons secure shutout over Shidler In a stellar performance on Friday, Aug. 16, the Dewar Lady Dragons defeated the Shidler Tigers 4-0, led by standout contributions from Emmy Hall and Brooke Thomas.

The Lady Dragons wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Emmy Hall delivering a three-run homer to center field in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. The early lead was extended in the second inning when Temperance Parker singled, bringing the score to 4-0.

Pitcher Brooke Thomas was a force to be reckoned with in the circle, dominating the Tigers’ lineup by throwing four hitless innings. Thomas struck out eight batters while allowing only two walks, earning the win for Dewar. Temperance Parker closed out the game, securing the save with solid relief pitching.

Emmy Hall led the offensive effort with three RBIs on her one hit, while Temperance Parker was a consistent threat at the plate, going 2-for-3 and adding two stolen bases to her stat line. The Lady Dragons also excelled defensively, with zero errors and standout fielding from Bre Harvell, who recorded 13 chances.

Shidler Tigers, though strong in the field with no errors, struggled to mount any offense against Dewar’s dominant pitching.

— Dewar trounces Fletcher, Wins Oilton Tourney The Dewar Lady Dragons capped off their weekend with a decisive 17-4 victory over the Fletcher Lady Wildcats on Saturday, demonstrating their relentless offensive firepower.

Dewar struck first in the opening inning, with Emma Bear’s sacrifice fly driving in a run. However, it was in the later innings that the Lady Dragons truly exploded, particularly in the fifth and seventh innings.

In the top of the fifth, Dewar scored six runs on five hits, including a key double from Brooke Thomas that drove in three runs. The offensive onslaught continued in the seventh inning, where the Lady Dragons piled on eight more runs. Highlights of the inning included a three-run homer by Kinsey Maldonado and RBI doubles from Emma Bear and Emmy Hall.

Temperance Parker was dominant in the circle, earning the win with a five-inning, two-hit performance. She struck out nine batters and walked two. Brooke Thomas came in to secure the save, capping a strong all-around game.

Dewar’s offense was unstoppable, racking up 20 hits. Kyla Bear, batting ninth, was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 and leading the team in hits. Brooke Thomas, Emmy Hall, Kinsey Maldonado, and Emma Bear each contributed three RBIs. The Lady Dragons also showed off their speed, stealing five bases, with Kyla Bear swiping two.

Fletcher Lady Wildcats managed to score four runs, but they couldn’t keep up with Dewar’s relentless attack. Despite turning a double play, the Wildcats struggled to contain the Lady Dragons’ offensive surge.

With these back-to-back victories, the Dewar Lady Dragons have solidified their status as a team to watch, combining stellar pitching, sharp defense, and explosive offense as they continue their impressive season.
