Stuart rally dooms Pirates

In a gripping baseball showdown on Tuesday, the Preston Pirates faced a tough defeat against the Stuart Hornets, with Stuart claiming victory 7-5 after a dramatic comeback.

The Pirates started strong, taking an early lead with Bradley Winford’s RBI groundout in the first inning followed by Noah Wilson’s powerful homer, putting them ahead by four runs. Adding another run in the third, Preston seemed poised for a commanding win.

However, the Hornets turned the game around in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on opportunities with Cody Cook’s single, a hit batter, and a key walk by Trenton Wimberly, knotting the score at 4-4. Stuart then surged ahead in the fifth inning as Dallin Whitaker and Nolan Lindley contributed RBIs, securing a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Hunter McElhannon took the mound initially for Preston, pitching three and twothirds innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out three. Stuart’s Colt Carlton matched him closely, pitching four and twothirds innings, yielding four hits and three earned runs while striking out four.

Offensively, Noah Wil- son stood out for the Pirates with a dynamic performance, driving in three runs and going 2-for-3 at bat. Kaden Dean, Noah Wilson, and Pepper Gallup each contributed two hits, with Kaden Dean also showcasing his speed with two stolen bases.

Stuart’s offense was well-rounded, with Trenton Wimberly, Dallin Whitaker, Cody Cook, and Zackary Luker each driving in crucial runs. Zackary Luker led Stuart with two hits in three at bats, highlighting their offensive efficiency.

Despite the setback, the Pirates remain determined as they prepared for their next challenge against the Kiowa Cowboys on Thursday. Today, they will travel to Wellston to face the Tigers.

The Pirates return home to face Okay on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
