Lady Pirates dominate Mounds, 16-1

The Preston Lady Pirates secured a dominant 16-1 victory over the Mounds Lady Eagles on Tuesday, thanks to an explosive 13-run first inning that set the tone for the game.

Kristen Houlby kicked off the scoring frenzy with an RBI single, followed by Kynlee Martin’s two-run single. Caris Tecumseh doubled, driving in another run, and Jaiden Harley doubled to clear the bases with three more runs. The fireworks continued as Taylan Starr and Na’Braijhanae Phillips each launched two-run homers to left field. Ashleigh Hurt capped off the inning by drawing a walk that scored a run, leaving the Lady Eagles reeling.

The Lady Pirates didn’t let up in the second inning, adding three more runs. Tyleigh Edwards was hit by a pitch, Alynn LeBlanc grounded out, and Kynlee Martin tripled, each bringing in a run to further extend Preston’s lead.

On the mound, Josie Cope was nearly untouchable, earning the win after pitching three innings without allowing a hit. She struck out four batters and walked none, with the only Mounds run coming unearned. Mounds struggled to find their footing, with starting pitcher Knight allowing 12 runs on 10 hits in just onethird of an inning. Baylie Harig took over but couldn’t stop the bleeding, giving up four more runs on six hits in two and two-thirds innings.

Preston’s offense was relentless, racking up 16 hits. Kynlee Martin led the charge, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Josie Cope, Kristen Houlby, Taylan Starr, and Jaiden Harley also had multiple hits, contributing to the Lady Pirates’ impressive performance. Olivia Beaver stole two of the team’s nine bases, adding pressure to Mounds’ defense throughout the game.

The Lady Pirates looked to continue their winning streak on Thursday when they hosted the Latta Panthers. They’ll then face the Porum Lady Panthers at home on Monday, followed by a road game against the Henryetta Lady Knights on Tuesday.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Preston Lady Pirates and their exciting season ahead.
