OPS hires more staff for upcoming year

The Okmulgee School Board of Education held a brief special meeting on Monday afternoon. During which, they approved the minutes from the July 16 special meeting, along with the monthly encumbrances and expenditures. They also addressed several teacher and support staff positions in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Please note, the following names are only those listed and approved at this meeting and not a comprehensive list of all district employees for FY25.

• Kevin Williams – 6th/7th Grade English — Emergency Certification

• Tina Smith – 8th Grade Art, Social Studies

• Clifton Harris – High School Environmental Science and Chemistry

• Kendra Hollingsworth – High School Biology, AP Biology

• Cordell Love – High School Oklahoma History and Government

• Darren Williams -Later in the meeting, the board approved FY25 vendor/service contracts with the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA) for district services and Tonya Condren for remote special education management.

A rental request submitted by Back to School Cuts for the use of Dunbar Gym was also approved. Okmulgee alumni and professional barbers Delano Morgan and Joseph Reyes have organized the 1st annual Back to School Cuts event, which will take place at the Dunbar Gym on August 11 from 1-6 pm. This event will provide free basic haircuts for students needing a fresh look for the new school year, with specialty cuts available by appointment only.

Additionally, there will be a raffle for a backpack filled with supplies, and donations will be accepted.
