Lady Knights show resilience at Panama scrimmage

The Henryetta Varsity Lady Knights demonstrated their competitive spirit during the Panama Scrimmage last week, delivering an impressive mix of performances across their four games.

— Game 1: Henryetta vs. Lady Eagles

The Henryetta Lady Knights opened their scrimmage series with a hard-fought 7-4 victory against the Lady Eagles on Thursday. Despite a shaky start that saw the Lady Eagles score three runs due to errors and a walk, the Lady Knights quickly turned the game around. In the bottom of the first inning, Henryetta scored five runs on zero hits, aided by a critical walk from Ailanee Hicks. The Lady Knights further solidified their lead with additional runs in the second inning.

Kelsey Brandt started on the mound for Henryetta, allowing no hits and three unearned runs over two innings. Keegan Hamric came in as relief. Offensively, Maddie Rock led the team, going 1-for-1, while Brandt, Hamric, Avery Perez, and Grace Pollard each drove in a run. Henryetta showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks and turning one double play in the field.

— Game 2: Henryetta vs. Tigers

On Friday, the Lady Knights faced the Tigers and were narrowly defeated, 5-2. Henryetta struck first with a run in the opening inning from an Ailanee Hicks double. However, the Tigers responded with three runs in the second inning, capitalizing on an error and a two-run double by Miley Wafford.

Allie Davis pitched for Henryetta, giving up five hits and five runs (three earned) over two and twothirds innings, while striking out three. Hicks, Maddie Rock, Davis, and Chloe Swearingin each recorded a hit for the Lady Knights. Despite the loss, Henryetta’s defense executed a double play, showcasing their fielding capabilities.

— Game 3: Henryetta vs. Panama Varsity

In a thrilling game on Friday, the Henryetta Lady Knights secured a 4-3 victory against the Panama Varsity Ladybacks. The Lady Knights were trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning when Allie Davis delivered a clutch double, driving in two runs to take the lead. Davis also contributed earlier with an RBI single in the third inning.

Keegan Hamric earned the win, while Davis and Kelsey Brandt also pitched effectively. Davis was a standout at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Maddie Rock and Davis formed a formidable duo, each collecting two hits. Despite a strong effort from Panama, including three stolen bases by Hayven Hoffman, Henryetta’s late-game heroics secured the win.

— Game 4: Henryetta vs. Red Oak Varsity

In their final game of the scrimmage, the Lady Knights fell to the Red Oak Varsity Lady Eagles, 5-1. Red Oak took an early lead with four runs in the first inning and extended it with another in the second. Henryetta managed to score one run in the third inning, driven in by Cialee Watkins.

Allie Davis took the loss for Henryetta, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits over three innings. Despite the loss, Ailanee Hicks led the Lady Knights offensively, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Red Oak’s Jaylee Branscum played a pivotal role, driving in three runs and going 2-for-2.

The Henryetta Lady Knights showed determination and skill throughout the Panama Scrimmage, gaining valuable experience and demonstrating their potential for the upcoming season.
