Sandra Sue Goodman

January 23, 1936 – July 19, 2024

Sandra Sue (Johnson) Goodman, known by many as Grandma Sue, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Highland Park Manor. She was 88 years of age. Sue was born January 23, 1936, in El Reno, to the late Charlie and Velma (Griffin) Johnson.

She graduated from El Reno High School and attended Mercy Hospital Nursing School where she became a Registered Nurse. Sue met Max Goodman on a blind date and they were married on August 9, 1957, in El Reno. She spent her life caring for others through working at the Okmulgee County Health Department, as the Okmulgee Public Schools Nurse, in Labor and Delivery at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital and retiring as RN Supervisor at Rebold Manor. After her retirement, she enjoyed the time spent working at the Blossom Shop. Sue was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Okmulgee.

Sue loved all sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Okmulgee Bulldog fan. She was known for her green thumb and enjoyed working in her yard and flowers beds. Sue also had a great love for animals and was an avid reader. She loved Mexican food and always looked forward to eating out with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Max Goodman; a daughter, Pamela Goodman Carney; a sister, Joyce Sheldon and her husband L.E. Sheldon; and a nephew, Dean Sheldon.

Survivors include her daughter, Lori Jones and husband Rex; grandchildren, Patrick Carney and wife Taryn, Kelli Jones and husband Elliot Rosenberg, Katy Carney and Natalie Jones and husband Jaylen Mayfield, great grandchildren, Jayce and Addison Mayfield, Emree Cook, James Carney and Gus Cooper, nieces, Lisa Sheldon and Sandy Sheldon, her extended family, Linda Bond, Laura Nell Ledford, the Williams family and many special friends.

The family wishes to thank Highland Park Manor and Season’s Hospice for their wonderful care.

A service to celebrate Sue’s life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diana Northcutt officiating. Interment will take place at Okmulgee Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorials in Sue’s memory be made to the Friends of the Okmulgee Public Library, 218 S. Okmulgee Ave., Okmulgee, OK 74447 or United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 302 S. Seminole Ave., Okmulgee, OK 74447.

A reception immediately followed the celebration of life at McClendon-Winters Life Celebration Center, 310 E. 6th St. in Okmulgee.

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Sue’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon-winters.com.
