– Chamber of Commerce Agreement: The council approved an agreement between the City of Okmulgee and the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the agreement. This agreement provides $16,500 in funding for the Chamber’s activities, with strict restrictions that city funds cannot be used for administrative fees or political activities.
-Main Street Board Agreement: An agreement was approved between the City of Okmulgee and the Okmulgee Main Street Board of Directors, providing $22,000 per year for various projects aimed at improving the city’s main street area.
– Public Transportation Funding: The council approved $15,000 in funding for the KI BOIS Community Action Foundation to provide public transportation services to the citizens of Okmulgee for fiscal year 2024-2025. This service is crucial for helping residents get to medical appoint- ments and other essential destinations.
– Sponsorship of the Okmulgee Invitational Rodeo: A sponsorship of $4,000 was approved for the Okmulgee Invitational Rodeo for fiscal year 2024-2025. This is the 69th year for the event, which will be held Aug. 9-10.
– Senior Nutritional Center Lease: The council approved a lease agreement with the Community Action Resource and Development Corp. (CARD) for the Senior Nutritional Center at a cost of $150 per month for fiscal year 2024-2025.
– Continued Participation in Main Street Programs: A resolution was passed to support the city’s continued participation in the 2024 Oklahoma Main Street Program, which helps with the revitalization of downtown areas.
– Collective Bargaining Agreement with Firefighters: The council approved a collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Firefighters, Local 2839, ensuring fair terms for the firefighters serving the community for fiscal year 2024-2025.
– Opioid Abatement Grant: A significant grant of $660,844.42 from the Opioid Abatement Board was accepted. This grant will be used to address the opioid crisis within the community by funding several critical initiatives. The grant will be used to purchase portable simulators for training first responders in handling opioid overdoses.
Additionally, part of the grant will be allocated to buy portable defibrillators, which are essential for treating overdose patients who may experience cardiac arrest. These defibrillators will be distributed among police patrol vehicles and emergency response units to ensure they are readily available during emergencies. Furthermore, the grant will reimburse the city for the costs associated with emergency responses to overdose incidents, including personnel time and vehicle usage.
– Demolition Contracts: The council approved awarding a contract to American Demolition in the amount of $108,738 for the removal of a commercial structure located at 422 S. Seminole. This contract includes the demolition of the burned-out ‘Black Apartments’ and stipulates that all debris be taken to the landfill at no additional cost to the contractor.
Another contract, No. 6-24, was approved for the removal of multiple dilapidated structures on one privately owned property in the city, which has been deemed a public safety hazard by the building official.

– Black Jack Camping Ground Project: Approval for professional services from R.L. Shears Company, PC, for the Black Jack Camping Ground Project, including bidding phase services and construction phase services, in the amount of $29,950.
