The opening ceremony, with a prayer by Rev. McKinley Rice of St. Matthew Baptist Church of Okmulgee, commenced with speeches underscoring the importance of supporting youth in need. Dr. Sherrie Carter-Greene, instrumental in steering the project, expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that made the new facility a reality. ‘This is more than just a building; it’s a beacon of hope for our children,’ she remarked.

‘We met with Senator Thompson early on, and despite initial uncertainties, his support paved the way for securing substantial funding,’ he stated. Dr. Messiah also credited Dr. Sherrie for her leadership in crafting a compelling proposal that secured over $30 million in funding. Legislator Chris Banning’s Personal Connection Reflecting on his own journey, Legislator Chris Banning shared a personal story of resilience and the critical role support systems play in shaping young lives. ‘I was once one of those kids,’ he admitted, underscoring the impact of community support and guidance. His commitment to continued legislative support resonated deeply with attendees.
