Robert Ray Simmons was born in Muskogee on October 11, 1932. He went to his heavenly home at the age of 91 on July 5, 2024. Robert married the love of his life, Mae Simmons, on December 21, 1954, and they enjoyed 69 wonderful years together.
He was proud to serve our country as an Army veteran during the Korean War. After his military service, Robert dedicated his life to education. He taught high school in Rocky Ford, Colorado, for 11 years before completing his teaching career as a drafting instructor at OSU-Okmulgee.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lela Simmons; his brothers, Homer Simmons and Vernon Simmons; his sister-in-law, Dale Simmons; and his great-grandson, Holt Acre Simmons.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Dyche, and her husband, Larry; his son, Chuck Simmons, and his wife, Donna. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Kyle Simmons and his wife, Chelsea; Lucas Simmons and his wife, Stevi; Nicholas Simmons and his wife, Allie; Kirk Dyche and his wife, Michelle; Sean Dyche and his wife, Lauren; and Sabrina Sparrow and her husband, Bill. Robert was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Brynlee Dyche, Alexandra Sparrow, Adalyn Sparrow, Foster Simmons, Prin Simmons, Margot Simmons, and Silas Simmons.
Robert deeply loved his church family at First Baptist Church October 11, 1932 – July 5, 2024
in Weleetka and First Baptist Church in Okmulgee, where he served as a deacon for several decades.
He was known for his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family, and his passions for golfing, woodworking, and traveling. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Kyle Simmons, Lucas Simmons, Nicholas Simmons, Kirk Dyche, Sean Dyche, as well as Levi Hayes.
Robert loved the Lord with all his heart and was admired by many for his kindness and generosity. He never had an unkind word to say and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
Funeral services for Robert Simmons were held Tuesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Weleetka, with Rev. Noah Baker, pastor, officiating. Pallbearers will be Kyle, Lucas and Nicholas Simmons, Kirk and Sean Dyche and Levi Hayes. Visitation was held Monday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family greeted visitors from 6-8 p.m. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Weleetka.
