David Eugene Fetgatter

David Eugene Fetgatter, longtime Okmulgee resident and business owner, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 83 years of age. He was born August 9, 1940, in Central City, Ill. to the late Donald and Viola (Lippert) Fetgatter. David received his bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Ada. He managed Humpty Dumpty Grocery Stores in Shawnee and Ada and moved to Okmulgee in 1972, where he purchased the IGA store on Wood Drive. David later lived in Pryor and Joplin, then relocated to Tulsa, where he worked for Walmart. He retired at the age of seventy-five and returned to Okmulgee. David was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Okmulgee Lions Club and the Okmulgee County G.O.P.

David enjoyed tending to his yard. He was a collector of many things, including miniature cars and trains. He was well known for his outdoor Christmas Decorations, which often remained August 9, 1940 – June 26, 2024

up for months following the holidays.

David was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Christopher.

Survivors include his children, Dava Lyman and husband Sean, Scott Fetgatter and wife Kimberly, Sean Fetgatter and Amanda Fetgatter, daughters-in-law, Cathy Fetgatter and Katherine Fetgatter, siblings, James Fetgatter and wife Hallie and Dean Fetgatter and wife Phyllis, grandchildren, Jesse Ray and wife Dara, Ashley Ray and husband Adam Barbera, Meagan Horton and husband Tyler, Cody Fetgatter, Josh Norton, Joe Norton, Mackenzie Finik, William Hudson, Christopher Fetgatter, and Nicholas Fetgatter and great grandchildren, Michael Schelling, Charlie Ray, Louie David Ray, Braylee Fetgatter, Kimber Horton, Kaleb “Nuggy” Horton and Roger Fetgatter.

A service to honor David’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Okmulgee Lions Club.
