Actors sought for ‘Princess Bride’ production

OK Misfits Theatre Co, a new Okmulgee community theater, will be debuting with “The Princess Bride” on Aug. 23-24. Open auditions are Sunday, June 30, from 2-5 p.m. at the Dunbar Learning Center, 420 E. 2nd Street in Okmulgee.

Kirsten Jackson, private theater teacher, and Michael Wegrzyn, local script writer, are teaming together to head up OK Misfits Theatre Co.

“Mike and I guest directed ‘The Wizard of Oz’ last sum- mer for the Okmulgee Community Theatre and had a great experience,” Jackson said. “I was so surprised and pleased when 32 people in our town joined us to put on a show. I have hopes to offer short workshops for adults on Beginning Acting and Improv and Mike will lead groups about film and film acting. We also want to put on at least three stage performances a year.”

The OK Misfit Theatre Co. will rehearse for “The Princess Bride” Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. The performance will take place Friday, Aug. 23, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission will be by donation.

“I’m hoping I’ll see some new faces at auditions,” Jackson stated. “I think Okmulgee has a lot of hidden talent. I try to create an environment where actors can feel comfortable and stretch their creative wings. I believe everyone has the capacity to be creative and they just need the opportunity, and I love offering that opportunity. Creativity is good for people.”

For more information about OK Misfits Theatre Co. or “The Princess Bride” auditions, visit the OK Misfit Theatre Co. Facebook page or attend open auditions this Sunday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at 420 E. 2nd Street in Okmulgee.
