OPS names new admins
By TONYA STRETCH SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

In the wake of longtime Superintendent Renee Dove’s retirement, Okmulgee Public Schools is ushering in a new era of leadership with the appointment of several new administrators. This transition marks a significant chapter for the district as it continues to strive for academic excellence and community engagement.

Dove, who has been employed with Okmulgee Public School district since 1977 and has served as the Superintendent for the past eight years, announced her retirement earlier this year, prompting the Okmulgee School Board to embark on a comprehensive search for her successor. The board has now introduced Clay Vinyard as the new Superintendent, along with a team of experienced educators who will take on pivotal roles within the district.

Vinyard who previously held the position of Principal at Tulsa Edison, is recognized for his commitment to honoring past achievements while embracing innovation and progress. He expressed his enthusiasm about joining Okmulgee Public Schools in a statement.

“I firmly believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education that nurtures their academic, social, and emotional growth,” Vinyard said. “I am committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement within our district. I am confident that we will provide our students with the resources and support they need to thrive.”

Joining Vinyard is LuVona Copeland, appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Curriculum and Joanna Lobaugh, appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services.

— Okmulgee High School

Amanda Thomas has been named as the Principal of Okmulgee High School along with Steven Lobaugh, who will serve as the school’s Assistant Principal. Dean of Students will remain with Juanita Morgan.

— Dunbar Intermediate School Scott Bein has been selected as Dunbar Intermediate School’s Principal with David Dunlap named as the Assistant Principal. K’Eirra Riggs-Cannady will assume the role of Dean of Students.

— Okmulgee Primary School Dawn Wallace remains the Principal of Okmulgee Primary School as well as Phillip Ware as the Assistant Principal. Dr. Dianna Humphrey will join the Primary School and will also serve as an Assistant Principal.

— Athletic Director

The District Athletic Director has been named as the Boys Basketball Head Coach, Cordell Love.

– These appointments come after a rigorous selection process that involved input from educators, parents and community members.

As Okmulgee Public Schools transitions to new leadership, the focus remains on enhancing educational outcomes and supporting the holistic development of all students. The district’s commitment to excellence and community partnership is evident in its thoughtful selection of new administrators.
