Investigation underway in county homicide
An investigation in the death of a man found Wednesday afternoon on a rural county road is under investigation.
According to the Okmulgee County Sheriff ’s Office, an unidentified man was discovered in the middle of N. 100 Road off Highway 16, west of Beggs. That road is the dividing line between Okmulgee and Creek counties.
The Okmulgee County Sheriff ’s Office, along with the Creek County Sheriff ’s Office and the District 25 Task Force was in the area after the man was found. Authorities said he was shot in the head and chest.
Investigators were determining the identity of the victim, and whether he was killed at the scene, or somewhere else, before being dumped on the road.
In an interview Wednesday afternoon with media, Sheriff Eddy Rice sought to allay features about any other incidents.
“I don’t think there’s any concern for any neighbors. I don’t think there’s any concern for farmers or anyone that’s just traveling roads. I think this is something unfortunate, but it happened,” Sheriff Rice.
The OCSO is taking the lead in the investigation, and were set to continue their work yesterday morning into the death.
Undersheriff Smokey Patchin told the Times early Wednesday the agency is waiting for an official ID from the Medical Examiner.
