Emergency Management Report 6/10/2024

Board of County Commissioners Meeting: Attended the Board of County Commissioners meeting to discuss current emergency management activities, ongoing projects, and upcoming initiatives. Key points included updates on weather monitoring, emergency response, and grant opportunities.

 

Okmulgee County Ambulance Authority Meeting: Attended the Okmulgee County Ambulance Authority Meeting.

 

Weather Monitoring and Flood Response: Monitored two significant weather systems that passed through Okmulgee County, resulting in over 6 inches of rain within a 48-hour period. This heavy rainfall caused minor flooding in several areas:

  • One road closure on 6th Street between Mission and 250 Road
  • Responded to a resident’s report of their neighbor causing flooding by creating ditches. After investigation, it was determined that the property owner’s actions did not adversely affect the neighboring property.

 

State of Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management: Contacted by the State of Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management regarding a storm siren grant. Due to funding limitations, the grant wi be split into two separate grants. Further details and application processes will be coordinated to ensure proper allocation and utilization of the grant funds.

 

Tornado Recovery FEMA Public Assistance Scope Meeting: Attended a meeting to discuss the FEMA Public Assistance Scope related to tornado recovery efforts. Emphasized the importance of submitting all Okmulgee County Damage Inventory by the August 4th deadline. Additionally, explored opportunities for mitigation projects to improve and repair damaged areas, potentially securing additional funding to enhance resilience against future disasters.

 

Structure Fire Response: Responded to structure fire on 280 RD South of Hwy 62 with Morris Fire Department. Structure was undergoing remodel at time of incident. No injuries or loss of life reported.Structure was a total loss.

 

Overall, this week involved active participation in meetings, diligent weather monitoring, flood response, and coordination with state and federal agencies to secure funding and support for ongoing and future emergency management projects.

 

Unique Entity Identifier: Through SAM. GOV Okmulgee County Unique Entity Identifier has been updated and will expire in one year, allowing for Okmulgee County to continue to receive federal payments.
