Dear Editor,

The Broadway production of the musical “Music Man” was performed by the Henryetta High School Drama Department this past weekend and my friends and I were fortunate enough to attend last Friday evening.

This was the fourth time we’ve attended performances by the drama students and again, we were blown away by their performance.

These young students are extremely talented and they worked many long hours putting together a production they can be proud of, and they did it in 30 days which is unbelievable.

Thanks also for the hard work and talent of Liz Bealko, director and choreographer, and Justin Been, department head and set designer. Their long hours of work and talent made this event a “Show Stopper.”

The scenery, costumes, dancing and singing were as professional as any performance a person could experience and it happened in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Imagine that!

As I sat there enjoying an evening of artistic performances, it brought to mind something so abundantly clear.

If we do not demand the arts being taught in our schools we are depriving our young people of the fundamental right to a well rounded education.

I’m proud of the Henryetta schools for understanding and promoting the arts in their schools and giving their students the opportunity to express themselves.

We look forward to future performances and hope you get the opportunity to attend and support these students and the school that encourages excellence.
