Pirates’ season ends with loss to Oktaha

An outstanding season came to an early end Friday afternoon as the Preston Pirates fell 10-3 to the Oktaha Tigers in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament.

The Tigers went on to capture the state title the following afternoon in Shawnee by beating Cashion 15-5.

Oktaha got on the board in the top of the first inning after Darren Ledford doubled, and Mason Pickering hit a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Maddox Edwards and Kipton Christian.

Four more runs were added in the third inning by the Tigers, before Preston scored one run in the fifth, and added two more in the sixth inning.

Jayden Herring went 3-for-3 at the plate, leading the team with two runs batted in. Noah Wilson had two hits; Waylon Cope added two walks.

The Pirates ended the season with a 26-4 record, making their third state appearance in a row.

Congratulations to the Preston Pirates and Coach Ryan Hudson and his staff for another stellar season.
