The Okmulgee Public School Board of Education met for a special meeting Wednesday evening involving a grievance case against a board member.
The grievance was concerning an unauthorized visit to a classroom in breach of board policy.
The incident which led to Wednesday evening’s public hearing, occurred on Feb. 15 when OPS Board member Vickie Jones was found to have violated school visitation policies during an unscheduled visit to teacher Candi Padfield’s classroom at the Okmulgee Primary School.
A representative for Padfield presented and questioned several witnesses, and Jones was given the same opportunity to present and ask questions.
Ultimately, the board upheld Padfield’s grievance, concluding that Jones failed to adhere to the necessary visitation policies. Jones was instructed to comply strictly with all visitation policies in the future, but the board did not find that her actions caused professional or economic harm to Ms. Padfield. Therefore, no damages were awarded.
