No. 1 Dewar baseball shuts out Canadian
The Dewar Dragons baseball team clinched the district title after two resounding wins on Tuesday, as they hosted the Canadian Panthers.
After dropping a close game on Monday to Oktaha, 4-5, the Dragons rebounded with shut out games the following day in district competition.
Coach Josh Kilhoffer’s Dragons defeated Canadian 15-0 and 17-0 to clinch the title.
In the first game, Luke Hankins drove in four runs on two hits to lead Dewar to the win. He hit a home run to left field in the first inning, scoring three runs, and walked in the first inning, scoring one.
Dewar Varsity Dragons scored 14 runs in the first inning on the way to victory.
Aiden Tomlinson and Luke Hankins each collected two hits; Zack Mullen led Dewar with three walks, with Dewar getting a total of nine during the game.
Peyton Kilhoffer, Jacob Paden, and Johnathan Wilson each stole multiple bases for the Dragons, piling up nine stolen bases for the game.
In the second game, the Dragons again ran away from the Panthers, 170, thanks in part to 13 runs in the first inning.
Tomlinson drew a walk, scoring one run; Wilson doubled, scoring two runs; Kilhoffer singled, scoring two runs; a wild pitch scored one run, Christian Cargola singled, scoring one run; Zack Mullen doubled, scoring two runs; Tomlinson singled, scoring one run; Michael Taylor singled, scoring one run; and Jeron Bryson was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
The Dragons added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Wilson and Kilhoffer both singled; Bryson grounded out, scoring one run.
On the mound, Tomlinson earned the win for the Dragons as he gave up no hits and no runs, striking out nine and walking one.
The 23-2 Dragons will travel to Kiefer for their next game on Monday.
