The Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners held a brief meeting Monday, starting with a prayer from Commissioner Erik Zoellner before the usual approval of minutes from the previous meeting.

The board went on to approve the payment of claims, including 324A claims for the Bristlecone Road project, as well as an invitation to bid on a 2014 or newer single-drum roller. Additionally, the following blanket purchase orders were approved: District 1- S&H Auto for $1,000; District 2 – Cintas for $700, RPI for $1,000, O’Reilly’s for $250 and AutoZone for $250.

Corrections to errors included county donations to the Sheriff’s Safe grant that had been deposited into the incorrect account and another instance where workers’ compensation was paid from the general fund rather than the employment compensation fund.

Before entering an executive session, the commissioners heard from two other county leaders. First, Okmulgee Emergency Management Director Jeff Moore delivered his weekly report, which can be read in full in Friday’s edition. He discussed an increase in floodplain inquiries from around the county and detailed efforts to monitor last week’s eclipse. Moore also said that residents should be prepared for a possible cold front on Thursday.

Next, Sheriff Eddy Rice said that his team has been working to enforce the recent speed limit changes in the county as drivers adjust to new signage in some areas.

Recently, the commissioners passed resolutions to reduce speed limits on 153rd and 230th.
