Lady Demons earn road diamond win at Glencoe
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

The Beggs Lady Demon varsity slowpitch softball team earned a road win over Glencoe on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Demons’ 13-8 victory over the host Lady Panthers puts the Beggs squad’s season record at 5-6, heading into this weekend’s Okmulgee Slowpitch Softball Festival.

The Beggs ladies were scheduled to battle Gore and Okmulgee Thursday at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively, and are slated to take on county rivals Preston and Dewar in back-to-back festival games on Friday at 10 and 11 a.m., respectively.

The Lady Demons began this week’s action Monday with home games against Henryetta and Kellyville, dropping both contests by run-rule decisions – 24-3 to Henryetta and 16-1 to Kellyville.

In Tuesday’s road win, the Lady Demons opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first.

The host Lady Panthers plated three runs in the home half of the frame to cut the Beggs lead to one, 4-3, after one inning of action.

After a scoreless second, the Beggs ladies increased their lead to 7-3 with two runs in the third and one in the fourth.

After Glencoe cut the lead in half, 7-5, with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, both teams tallied a run in their half of the fifth to make it an 8-6 Beggs lead after five innings.

Glencoe plated two runs in the home half of the sixth to deadlock the score at 8-8 with one inning of regulation remaining, where the visiting Lady Demons plated five runs in their final at-bat and hold the Lady Panthers in check in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with the 13-8 decision.

Taytum Mills was the top offensive contributor for Beggs on Tuesday, finishing 3 for 4 at the plate with three singles.

The trio of Haylee Baughn (2 for 4, single, triple, 3 RBIs), Ruby Tenison (2 for 5, 2 singles), and Angel Aylor (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI) also recorded multi-hit games in Tuesday’s road win, finishing with two hits apiece.

The other Lady Demon base hits in the victory came on a double by Kayliegh Thompson, RBI single by Ava Williams, RBI double by Emma Trimble, and 2-run double by Avery Been.
