The Preston Pirate varsity spring baseball team kicked off their 2024 season with a 10-0, run-rule, victory over the Rejoice Christian Eagles.
The season-opening shutout win came last Thursday evening at the Jim Waller Sports Complex in Preston.
The Pirates were back in action Monday with a trip to Prague for a showdown with the Prague Red Devils. The Preston squad will also be on the road Thursday, traveling to Crowder for a meeting with the Crowder Demons and will close out the week Saturday at 12 p.m. in a county battle with the Morris Eagles in Preston.
In last Thursday’s season opener against Rejoice Christian, the Pirates drew first scoring blood with five runs in the bottom of the first. The Preston squad added two in the second and three in the fourth for the 10-0, run-rule, victory.
The Pirate offensive attack was led by the duo of Jayden Herring (2 for 4, single, double, 2 RBIs) and Kaden Dean (2 for 3, 2 singles) with two hits apiece.
The other Preston base hits in the season-opening win came on a single by Noah Wilson, 2-run singles by Braxton Kennedy and Bradley Winford, and a 2-run double by Waylon Cope.
Kaden Dean earned the pitching win for the Pirates, striking out nine, walking two, and hitting two in four no-hit innings of work.
