Dewar opens season with four-straight shutouts

The Dewar Dragon varsity baseball program enters the second full week of the 2024 season with a spotless 5-0 record with the first four wins coming by way of shutout.

In their first five games this season, the Dragons (ranked 5th in Class A) have outscored their opponents 68-2.

The Dragons began the 2024 campaign March 1 with a 17-0 win at home against the Wetumka Chieftains, then blanked the Davenport Bulldogs by an 8-0 margin the following day in Davenport.

The Dewar squad doubled their win total with back-to-back shutout wins March 5 at home against the Weleetka Outlaws (10-0) and Depew Hornets (14-0), respectively.

The fifth win of the season came last Thursday at Roff with the Dragons escaping with a 9-2 decision against the Class B fourth-ranked Roff Tigers.

The Dewar squad had its home game last Friday against Porum rained out and had its home meeting with Stonewall this past Saturday canceled in the bottom of the first following the Stonewall starting pitcher being hit by a line drive with no outs, a runner on second, and the Dragons leading 2-0.

This week’s schedule for the Dewar squad began Monday at home against the Warner Eagles, followed by a road trip into Sequoyah County on Tues- day and a meeting with the Central Sallisaw Tigers. The Dragons will close out the week with home games against Barnsdall on Thursday, Moss and Vian on Friday, and Wright City on Saturday, as part of the 3-day Dewar Dragon Baseball Festival.

After the home festival, the Dewar squad will compete in the Wright City Spring Break Festival next Thursday and Friday.
