Dora L. Dooley

Dora L. Dooley, known to most as “Doe,” passed away on February 27, 2024, in Tulsa, at the age of 97. Doe was born on October 9, 1926, in Okmulgee to Denny and Lula (Greenhaw) Thomas.

Born and raised in Okmulgee, Dee graduated from Okmulgee High School. She married George Dooley on February 25, 1949. They were married for 41 years prior to his death. Doe worked in the bookkeeping department for the Okmulgee County Clerk’s office for 15 years. She served the Okmulgee County Family Resource Center as an advocate for women. She participated in Finley Folly at Okmulgee High School. A woman of faith, Doe was a long-standing member of the First Christian Church serving as a Deacon, teaching vacation bible school, and singing in the choir.

Doe loved to host family dinners, cook and entertain family and friends at the Dooley Pecan Farm. Several weddings were performed under a Dooley pecan tree.

Doe is preceded in death by her parents, Denny and Lula; husband, George; son, Daniel Dooley; daughter, Dietra Dooley Lewis; brothers, Bob and Benny Thomas; and sisters, Helen Brock, Dorothy Holland, Lea Markham and Cle Hofmeister.

She is survived by son, Tom Dooley and wife Dana; brother, October 9, 1926 – February 27, 2024

Denny Thomas; grandchildren, Dana, Clinton, and Stephen Dooley, Ryan and Tyson Brown, Thomas, Dayen, Dayla and Lorie Dooley; and numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special friends, Lisa Miller, Angie Workman, and Delphia Arnold. She was loved by many.

Doe’s kindness, dedication, and love for her family and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Viewing for Doe will be held Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2-6 p.m. at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at Okmulgee Cemetery, with Robert Thomas officiating. Pallbearers will be Clinton Dooley, Stephen Dooley, Ryan Brown, Tyson Brown and Thomas Dooley.
