August 2, 1931 – February 15, 2024
Norma Sue Carpenter, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully in Tulsa on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the age of 92. Norma was born on August 2, 1931, in Hitchita to parents Walter and Hilda (Keifer) Schatt.
At the age of 18, Norma set out on a journey of love and companionship when she married her beloved husband James in Arkansas on August 5, 1949. Their union blessed them with a beautiful daughter, Sandra. They eventually settled in Okmulgee after James’s retirement, following his dedicated service as a Superintendent. Their enduring bond was a testament to love’s resilience until James’s passing in 2005.
Norma was deeply devoted to her faith and actively participated in the Okmulgee United Methodist Church’s WSCS group and various church committees. She found joy in serving her community and spreading kindness wherever she went.
Norma is preceded in death by her father, Walter Schatt, and her mother, Hilda Schatt, and her husband James. She leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories, cherished by her devoted family, including her daughter, Sandra Jackson, and husband Randy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Saint Francis Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Norma during her time there.
A private graveside ceremony was held at Council Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, officiated by Pastor Dennis Taylor.
