Local gyms to host area tourneys this weekend

Mvskoke Dome to hold Class A event; Henryetta HS to feature Class B contests

The Mvskoke Dome, at the Claude Cox Omniplex in Okmulgee, and the Henryetta Event Center, on the campus of Henryetta High School, will be the main sites for two area basketball tournaments this weekend.

The Area IV tournament in Class A will take place at the Mvskoke Dome, while the Area II tournament in Class B will be held at the Henryetta Event Center.

Both postseason events will take place this Thursday-Saturday with two state tournament berths in each bracket up for grabs.

The Class A area tournament at the Mvskoke Dome will feature girls basketball teams from Ripley, Porum, Okay, Stonewall, Red Oak, and Quinton and boys basketball teams from Red Oak, Stonewall, Summit Christian, Liberty (Mounds), Okay, and Riverfield Day Country School.

The Class B area tournament in Henryetta will feature girls basketball teams from McCurtain, Whitesboro, LeFlore, Kiowa, Dover, and Pittsburg and boys basketball teams from McCurtain, Kiowa, Dover, Braggs, Calumet, and Kinta.

Thursday’s area tournament action at both sites will feature loser’s bracket games in both brackets. The girls consolation quarterfinal contests will take place at 1 and 6 p.m., while the boys consolation quarterfinal games will be held at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Friday’s tournament action will begin with the girls consolation semifinals at 1 p.m. and the boys consolation semifinals at 2:30 p.m.

The first state tournament tickets at the 3-day event will be punched Friday evening with area championship contests at 6 (girls) and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

The final state tournament berths in both area tournaments will be awarded Saturday evening in the girls consolation title game at 6 p.m. and the boys consolation championship contest at 7:30 p.m.

Red Oak vs Stonewall; Thursday, 2:30 p.m. Summit Christian vs Liberty (Mounds); Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

Consolation Semifinals

Red Oak/Stonewall winner vs Summit Christian/ Liberty (Mounds) winner; Friday, 2:30 p.m.

Championship

Okay vs Riverfield; Friday, 7:30 p.m.
