The Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners met for their regular meeting Tuesday, following President’s Day. Commissioner Erik Zoellner proposed action to lower the speed limit on a stretch of road in the Quail Creek area.
Zoellner proposed a reduction of the speed limit from 45 mph to 35 mph, citing Oklahoma statute §47-11-801 regarding speed limits and fines for motor vehicles, and outlining its enactment, including a four-week public notice period.
“We need to give a notice in the publication, if we as the board approve it, to run for four weeks in a row,” Zoellner explained, handing each commissioner a paper with the recommended locations for the signage.
He added that while the crews worked to chip and seal the road an “overwhelming” number of residents asked us to please bring those that speed limit down. The board approved the resolution.
— Also approved at the meeting: • The minutes from the Feb 12 meeting and payment of claims.
• For District 1, there was a submitted utility permit from Rural Water District 6 and a private property agreement for ditch dirt. District 2 had one employment ceased.
• Publish listing Okmulgee County Employee salaries for 2023.
• A request from Joshua Coal Co. allowing them to do work within 5 feet of a county rightof- way. The board also heard the weekly report from emergency management, which can be found in Friday’s edition.
