Knights overcome 10-point deficit in 45-39 victory

The varsity basketball programs from Beggs and Henryetta met for the second time in 10 days Tuesday evening at the Beggs Event Center.

In the first meeting on January 27 in Henryetta, Beggs came away with the 2-game sweep over its county rivals with the Lady Demons emerging with a 59-41 decision, followed by the Demons walking away with the 58-50 victory in the nightcap.

On Tuesday, it was a reversal of fortunes, as Henryetta came away with a pair of 6-point wins in both contests. The Lady Knights escaped the opening contest with a 51-45 victory, while the Knights overcame a 10-point deficit with eight minutes remaining in regulation to complete the sweep with a 45-39 win in the nightcap.

Both county cage programs have two regular-season games remaining before beginning postseason play on February 17.

Beggs is scheduled to host Hilldale Friday and Okmulgee Tuesday, while Henryetta is scheduled to host Okemah Friday and Preston Monday.

In Tuesday’s county girls battle in Beggs, the Lady Demons led by eight, 17-9, after the first eight minutes of action, while the Lady Knights took the second quarter by an 18-6 margin for a 27-23 advantage at halftime.

Beggs made it a 3-point Henryetta lead – 41-38 – with a narrow 1514 margin in the third quarter, while Henryetta outscored its county rival 10-7 in the final stanza for the 51-45 decision.

McKayla Greenhaw led the Lady Knight scoring with 19 points, followed by Kassidy Lee with 15. Other Henryetta scorers in the county battle were Allie Davis with eight, Zoe Boatright five, and Maddie Rock four.

Beggs was led offensively by Rylee Youngblood with a game-high 23 points. Destiny Clay also finished in double figures for the Lady Demons on Tuesday with 13 points. Other Beggs scorers in the county contest were Tessa Christy with four, Bleu Hall and Kamya Stallings two apiece, and Konner Stanton one.

In Tuesday’s boys county showdown in Beggs, the Demons took the first two quarters by margins of 10-8 and 14-8, respectively, for a 24-16 advantage at the intermission.

The Beggs squad came out of the third period with a narrow 11-9 margin to extend its lead to 10 (35-25) with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

In the final frame, the Knights outscored their county rivals 20-4 to overcome the double-digit deficit and walk away on the winning end of a 4539 outcome.

The Henryetta offense was led by the duo of Talon Weaver and Skylar Greenhaw with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Beggs was led in scoring by Rickey Smith with a gamehigh 14 points.

Other scores for the visiting Knights on Tuesday were Will Perez with seven, Nathan Nail five, Gavin Williams, Nick Hudson, and Jacob Nail three apiece, and Nakona Johnson one.

The remaining scoring for the host Demons on Tuesday came on nine points by Jaylen Williams, four points each by Ezrah Anderson and Brayden King, three points apiece by Jaxon Remington and Jace Basquez, and two points by Dakota Hudson.
