Allen Ray McDowell

Allen Ray McDowell was born October 29, 1928, in Morris to the late Homer Allen Mc-Dowell and Gertrude Isbel (Bowen) McDowell. Ray passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

He attended Liberty- Morris School and after graduating he served his country in the U.S. Army. When Ray returned from Korea, he relocated to West Texas, where he went to work in the oil fields and started his family with his late wife Dorothy McDowell. His entire career was spent with George T. Abell Oil Company and its successors. Ray returned to the Morris area after retiring. He liked hunting, fishing and watching westerns and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved working cattle with Doug. Ray was a faithful member of Twin Hills Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Billy and Gerald McDowell; and sister-in-law, Joyce McDowell.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mc-Dowell; a son, Ronald McDowell and wife Nellie; grandchildren, Cory McDowell and wife Jennifer, Steven McDowell and wife Ana and Roni Kay McDowell; step-children, Doenye Essary and husband Paul, La-Donna Diebold and Kyle Mathis and wife October 29, 1928 – January 16, 2024

Gae; step-grandchildren, Kaytlin Fultz and husband Andy, Kylea Wares and husband Josh, Jimmy Collins and wife Angie, Deanna Zoeller and husband Bryan, Jeffrey Weldon and wife Michelle and Emily Beyers and husband Jeff; a niece, Dianna Sullins, nephews, Billy Ray McDowell and Billy Glenn Mc-Dowell; and numerous great grandchildren.

The family received friends Thursday evening at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home of Morris.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, at Twin Hills Baptist Church, with Revs. Steve Treagesser and Jeff Ward officiating. Casketbearers will be Cory McDowell, Steven McDowell, Allen Walters, Doug Diebold, Kyle Mathis, Jimmy Collins, Andy Fultz, Josh Wares, Danny Sullins, Gary Sullins, Billy Ray McDowell, Paul Essary and Ronald Walters.

A committal service will be held Monday, January 22, 2024, at Imperial Cemetery in Imperial, Texas.

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Ray’s Tribute Page at www. mcclendon-winters. com.
