Okmulgee Schools held programs honoring the life of the late Civil Rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The speaker at Okmulgee Primary’s assembly was living legend Kenneth LeBlanc, son of Roy LeBlanc, who told students about black cowboys like his father, the namesake of the annual black rodeo here in Okmulgee, and lawman Bass Reeves. Fox 23’s Paris Rains spoke to students at Dunbar about fullfilling their dreams. OHS Class of 2016 alum Kendall L. Ross, who went on to study and find a career in funeral services, spoke with high school students about some of the obstacles he faced chasing his own dream.
