Miracle on Main Street

Festival of Lights Parade tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The sounds and lights of the holidays come to life tomorrow evening as the annual Festival of Lights Parade takes over the streets of downtown Okmulgee.

Featuring the theme “Miracle on Main Street,” the parade will begin tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in downtown Okmulgee.

Parade lineup will be at 5:30 p.m. according to Okmulgee Main Street Director Heather Sumner. Over 60 entries are expected to be a part of the festivi-

A special treat this year will be photos with Santa Claus, who will be making an appearance from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Creek Council House. Photos will be taken in the foyer of the museum.

“There is no cost to take the photos,” Sumner said, “but we will gladly accept donations of canned or non-perishable food items at the event, which will be donated to a local food pantry.”

Pre-judging for parade entrants is at 6 p.m. for those entering the parade categories. They will be judged on:

• Best Use of Music

• Best Use of Lights

• Best Use of Theme

• Best Use of Costume

• Best Use of Mechanical Movement

• Overall Judges Choice Award Individually wrapped candy or information will be passed out directly to spectators by walkers only and not from vehicles.

Santa Claus will be in attendance, as he hitches a ride to conclude the parade.

Before attending the Festival of Lights Parade, take time to visit with the Okmulgee Rotary who is holding a fundraiser tomorrow evening also.

The Okmulgee Rotary will be at Midge & Millie’s Booksellers, and invite the public to come take pictures with Santa.

The event will be from noon to 6:30 p.m. Rotary is selling tickets for $15 per family. Each ticket gets a family picture with Santa, a Christmas book per family, each child can do a craft, and each child has the opportunity at a prize punch wall.

Extra punch attempts and an extra picture with Santa will be available for purchase.

Tickets are available at Miss Mary’s Market, Harlan Ford, Midge and Millie’s Bookstore and Schaudt’s Funeral Services, any Okmulgee Rotary member.

More information about the parade can be found on the Okmulgee Main Street Facebook page. Visit the Okmulgee Rotary Club Facebook page for details on their upcoming fundraiser.
