Joe Acton

Joe Dan Acton passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, in Okmulgee at 77 years of age. He was born January 27, 1946, in Dewar to A.J. Winter and Ramell (Acton) Rhodes. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army reserve for six years. He taught and coached basketball at Mingo Schools. He also taught at Leonard Schools and then taught at Edison Middle School until he retired. Joe gave everyone a nickname that he used throughout their life.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lance Acton; and two brothers, Cecil Rhodes and Steven Rhodes.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Acton and wife Afton and Michael Acton; grandchildren, Austin Acton, Kaylee Acton and Cory Brown; siblings, Bruce Rhodes and wife Sheryl, Marilyn Rhodes, Virigina Howard, and Michael Rhodes, Arthur King and wife Tinah; a sister- in-law, Michelle Rhodes; extended family, Jack and Mary January 27, 1946 – November 23, 2023

Francis, Milissia Smith, Joann and Robert Walker, Julie Johnson, David John and Robin Mattingly, Carolyn Speaks, and Rebecca and husband Roger Koenig; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mc-Clendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Joe’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon-winters. com.
