Okmulgee Public Schools kicked off World Kindness Week (Nov. 13-19) with Hug a Bulldog Day last Monday. The Okmulgee Bulldog, along with members of Tonya Stretch’s OHS Yearbook class, went all over Okmulgee spreading love to a number of residents and businesses.
Stretch told us that the aim for the week is to help create a society where everyone can live a dignified life, adding, “As you head out into the world this week remember even a small act of kindness can go a long way. That’s the Bulldog Way.”
The World Kindness Group, which consists of organizations and institutions in several countries, began observing World Kindness Week on Nov. 13, 1997, as a way to promote random acts of kindness and goodwill in communities around the world. Some of these acts include food and clothes drives, book donations, and other ways to meet the needs of our communities.
Though the week has ended, let’s commit ourselves to at least one random act of kindness per day and watch those habits carry into the following weeks, turning World Kindness Week into a month, a year, and a movement.
