By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

Wilson outscores foes 34-2 in 3-game sweep

For the first time in 14 years, the Wilson Lady Tiger varsity fastpitch softball team can call themselves district champions.

The Lady Tigers captured their first fastpitch district crown since 2009 with a 9-0 victory over the host Prue Lady Rockets last Thursday evening.

The Lady Tigers began last Thursday’s journey towards the district crown with a 16-0 win over Bluejacket, ending the Lady Chieftains’ season, then moved to within one win away from the district title with a 9-2 victory over the host Prue Lady Rockets.

The district championship puts the Wilson diamond squad into this week’s Class B regional tournament at Stuart. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to begin regional tournament play Thursday at 2 p.m. against 11thranked Whitesboro.

In last Thursday’s first meeting with Prue, the Lady Tigers opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. The Wilson squad made it a 3-0 contest with two runs in the home half of the third, while Prue plated its two runs in the top of the fourth for a 3-2 margin for the Lady Tigers.

The Wilson ladies regained their 3-run lead, 5-2, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, then added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth for the 9-2 decision.

The top offensive performer for the Lady Tigers in the 7-run win was Jaslene Proctor, who finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of singles, home run, and 2 RBIs. Proctor’s home run came on a solo blast in the bottom of the first.

The duo of Kaylee Earhart (2 for 4, double, home run, 4 RBIs) and Gracie Bear (2 for 4, single, double) also recorded multi-hit games for Wilson in the opening win with two hits apiece. Earhart’s roundtripper came on 2-run blast in the sixth.

The other Lady Tiger base hits in the opening win over Prue came on a single by Janelle Proctor, double by Jayda Pinkston, and RBI singles by Jamie Proctor, Ty Williams, and Alyna Earhart.

Bear earned the pitching win for Wilson in the opening win, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out seven, walking four, and hitting a batter in seven innings of work.

In last Thursday’s championship game against Prue, the Lady Tigers opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, then added three in the second, one each in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and two in the sixth for the 9-0 decision.

Janelle Proctor went the distance for Wilson in the title game, striking out seven and walking one in seven innings of no-hit work.

The Lady Tiger leadoff hitter was also the top offensive performer in the shutout win, finishing 3 for 4 with a single, double, triple, and one RBI.

The trio of Jamie Proctor (2 for 4, single, double, 2 RBIs), Jaslene Proctor (2 for 4, single, double), and Kaylee Earhart (2 for 4, double, triple, RBI) also recorded multi-hit games for Wilson in the title game with two hits apiece.

The final two Lady Tiger base hits in the shutout win came on a single by Alyna Earhart and a double by Gracie Bear.
