James Gordon Dixon, Sr.

James Gordon Dixon, Sr. was born Monday, April 19, 1943, in Liberty to the late W.W. and Clara Leslie (Bandy) Dixon. He passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, in Tulsa at 80 years of age.

Jamie, as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Liberty School. On December 23, 1961, he married the love of his life, Glenda Walters at Liberty Baptist Church. Jamie worked for several years as an office machine repairman for Shelton Office Supply. They then lived in Arkansas for a short while before returning to Liberty where he farmed and was bus driver and custodian at Liberty School. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church, served as chairman of the Liberty Cemetery Board and served on the Liberty School Board. Jamie was proud of his community and never missed an opportunity to promote Liberty. He loved his kids and grandkids and cherished the time spent with his family. Jamie will be remembered for his popcorn and his ornery ways, especially when teasing Glenda.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Gordon Dixon, Jr., and his siblings and their spouses, Pauline Miller and husband Willard,, Nadine Hill and husband Doyle, Ruby Ledford and husband Obie, Doyle Dixon, Junior Dixon and wife Mona, June Delaughder and husband Phil, and brothers-inlaw, Harold Edwards and Jack Whomble.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Glenda Dixon; children, Clint Dixon and wife Carolyn, Carmen Tidwell and husband Mike and Floyd Dixon and wife April 19, 1943 – September 17, 2023

Cheri; a daughter-inlaw, Cathy Dixon; siblings, JC Dixon and wife Mary, Enda Edwards and Kay Whomble; sister- in-law, Lillie Dixon Lawson; grandchildren, Brad Dixon and wife Megan, Jon Dixon and fiancé Michelle, Curtis Dixon and wife Erica, Keith Dixon and wife Lacy, Kristen Dixon and husband Travis, Jack Tidwell and Karli Dixon; great grandchildren, Kennan, Jaiden, LaWessa, Jakobi, Josey, Kale, Abel, Peyton, Mason, and baby Colson on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home, 421 South Hughes in Morris, on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. The family receives friends from 5-7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church, with Reverends Steve Treagesser and Jeff Ward officiating. There will be lunch served for family and friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Liberty Baptist Church or Liberty Cemetery.

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mc-Clendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on James’ tribute page at www.mcclendon- winters.com.
