Lady Dogs blanked in recent diamond action
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

The Okmulgee Lady Bulldog varsity fastpitch softball team found themselves on the losing end of three-straight shutout decisions earlier this week.

All three shutout losses came against District 3A-8 foes Eufaula and Vian.

The Lady Bulldogs began this week’s district action Monday at home against the Eufaula Lady Ironheads, falling by a 13-0 outcome, then dropped a pair of 10-0 decisions to the Vian Lady Wolverines in Vian on Tuesday.

The Okmulgee diamond squad returned to action Thursday with a trip to Webbers Falls and will also be on the road Tuesday at Eufaula before hosting Webbers Falls next Thursday and traveling to Spiro for a district doubleheader with the Spiro Lady Bulldogs next Saturday.

In Monday’s home meeting with Eufaula, the Lady Bulldogs were held to two hits in the shutout loss – singles by Cadence Smith and Nicole Warren. The only other Okmulgee baserunner against Eufaula was Mercedes Cloud, who drew a walk.

Eufaula began the scoring with 10 runs in the top of the first then added three in the third for the 13-0 decision.

In Tuesday’s opening battle with Vian, the host Lady Wolverines broke a scoreless tie with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, then ended the contest on the run rule with three runs in the home half of the fifth.

The Okmulgee offense was limited to three hits in the contest – singles by Cadence Smith, Natori Yates, and Mallory Rivas. The only other Lady Bulldog hitters to reach base were Nicole Warren (fielder’s choice) and Addison Yates (walk).

In Tuesday’s nightcap against Vian, the Lady Bulldogs were kept off the basepaths in their four at-bats.

Vian scored four in the first, four in the second, and two in the fourth to end the contest on the run rule, 10-0.

Natori Yates was saddled with the pitching loss for the Lady Bulldogs in each contest this week.
