Artra “Monty” Youghmon Young

September 28, 1965 – March 23, 2023

Artra “Monty” Youghmon Young was born on September 28, 1965, in Okmulgee. Monty peacefully entered the arms of the Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was the oldest son to the union of James Young and Wanda Joyce Zanders.

Monty attended Okmulgee High School and graduated from the class of 1983. He then attended Connors State College in Oklahoma, where he obtained his associate degree. Monty enlisted into the Marines Corps in 1988 where he served in the Persian Gulf War. In 1992, he was honorably discharged.

He then moved to Plainfield, N.J., where he met and married Sonya Felton. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Brianna Renee and Kayla Jordan. After the marriage dissolved, Monty was blessed with a son, Cameron Youghmon.

In 2004, Monty met the love of his life and best friend Josephine Miles. Monty had a successful 20 plus year career as a Financial Advisor working for several top investment firms throughout New Jersey and Atlanta.

Monty had a contagious smile and never met a stranger. He enjoyed working in his yard and was a food connoisseur. To all who knew him, he was the true embodiment of love.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Cherishing his memories is his life partner Josephine Miles; his loving children Brianna Renee, Kayla Jordan, and Cameron Youghmon; his brother James Yahtaka Young; his siblings Cheryl Craig White, Barry Lyons, Judith “Judy” Motte, Kimberly Young, Victor Young and Victoria Young; his uncle Donald (Doris) Zanders, Ronald (Yvonne).

A graveside ceremony will be shared to bury his ashes at Okmulgee Cemetery on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. Okmulgee Chapel.
