The Morris Lady Eagle varsity fastpitch softball team took home the team championship trophy from the Oilton Tournament this past Saturday with an 11-1 victory over the Depew Lady Hornets.

The 3-game sweep puts the Lady Eagles at 11-2, heading into Monday’s road trip to Chandler. The Morris squad was scheduled to host Lincoln Christian on Tuesday and will wrap up the week at the Depew Tournament Thursday-Saturday.

At the Oilton Tournament, the Morris squad opened tournament play last Friday with shutout wins over Maud (4-0) and the host Oilton Lady Panthers (10-0), respectively, to advance to Saturday’s tournament finals.

In Friday’s tournament opener against Maud, the Lady Eagles broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third then added two more in the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.

The contest ended on the time limit with Morris batting in the bottom of the fifth with the Lady Eagles on the winning side of the 4-0 outcome.

The top hitter for the Morris squad against Maud was Kaydence Ausbrooks, who finished 2 for 3 with a single, double, and RBI.

The other two base hits for the Lady Eagles in the tournament opener came on a single by Fire Clark and an RBI single by Emma Duclos.

Other Morris baserunners against Maud were Briley Cagle (walk), Ashlyn Clevenger (walk), Alli Guynes (walk), Dezmond Lewis (walk), and Rylee Whitaker (walk).

Duclos went the distance in the circle for Morris to earn the pitching win. Duclos struck out eight, while allowing just three hits in five shutout innings of work.

In Friday’s shutout win over the host Lady Panthers, the Lady Eagles began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Morris ladies added seven in the second and a run in the third for the 10-0 victory.

Kaydence Ausbrooks (3 for 3, 3 singles, RBI) led the way offensively for the Lady Eagles in the semi- final victory with a 3-hit game.

Other Morris batters with multi-hit games against Oilton were Fire Clark (2 for 2, 2 singles, 2 RBIs), Ashlyn Clevenger (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Alli Guynes (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI) with two hits apiece.

The other three base hits for the Lady Eagles in the semifinal win came on a single by Emma Duclos, RBI single by Dezmond Lewis, and 2-run single by Briley Cagle.

Other Morris baserunners against Oilton were Cagle (walk), Duclos (walk), Lewis (walk), Kailyn Fixico (hit by pitch), and Talee Zackery (walk).

Clark was awarded the pitching win for Morris, allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout and one hit batter in two innings of relief work.

Clark took over the pitching duties at the start of the third inning Duclos, who struck out four and allowed just one hit in the first two innings in the circle for the Lady Eagles.

In Saturday’s title game, the lone Depew run came in the bottom of the first.

Morris took over the lead in the top of the second, erupting for nine runs in the frame. The Lady Eagles added two more runs in the top of the third for the 11-1 decision.

The Morris offense tallied just three hits in the contest – singles by Kaydence Ausbrooks, Briley Cagle, and Fire Clark. The Lady Eagles took advantage of 13 walks in their three at-bats in the contest, scoring runs on seven of the 13 free passes.

The Morris hitters reaching base on walks were Ausbrooks, Cagle, Duclos (2, RBI), Ashlyn Clevenger (RBI), Alli Guynes (2, RBI), Kailyn Fixico (2, RBI), Dezmond Lewis (3, 2 RBIs), and Camara Casey (RBI).

Cagle and Casey drove in runs in the 9-run second with RBI fielder’s choices.

Duclos earned the pitching win for Morris, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out six in three innings of work.
