MPS board approves changes to policy manual

MPS board approves changes to policy manual
By JOSHUA JACKSON REPORTER

Staff hired for upcoming school year

The Morris Public School board approved a number of additions and revisions to their Board Policy Manual during Monday’s meeting. Superintendent Chris Karch discussed a few of these revisions, including a change to the school’s transfer policy.

Under the previous policy, the children of employees would have their transfer automatically accepted. With this change, acceptance of that transfer would be dependent on the student meeting that attendance and behavioral criteria as well.

Other revisions included changes to transportation policy which could allow for students to be picked up and dropped off outside of the district. Dr. Karch gave one example of a student who lived a half a mile past the county line and, for that reason, was unable to be picked up. The idea is that this policy will help make this more efficient.

One addition to the manual is a “prohibition on race and sex discrimination in curriculum and instruction.”

Superintendent Chris Karch also gave his report on their upcoming CCOSA/OSSBA Conference in August, a goals packet they have been working on, Continuing Education compliance, and state aid. He also said that the school was accredited with no deficiencies.

The council also made the following hires:

• Parker Ballard – PE Teacher & Basketball Coach

• Cy Curtis – Assistant Band Director

• Kristin Lemmings & Judith Salyer – Paraprofessionals • Caleb Bigpond – Teacher’s Assistant & Coach

• Emily Guynes – Teacher’s Assistant

• Nicole Carlson – Teacher’s Assistant

• Kari Brantley – Cafeteria — Also approved at the meeting:

• Natalie Clark as District Treasurer for FY24.

• Acceptance of the 2023-24 handbook.

• Acceptance of the 2023-24 Negotiated Agreement.

• Approval of Superintendent Karch as authorized representative for federal programs and to assign claims for FY24.

• The paying of all non-free student breakfast and lunch meals from the general fund for FY24.

• A contract for Secondary Career and Technology Education programs for the new school year.
