Lady Eagles ‘corral’ Kellyville to stay perfect in district play
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

The Morris Lady Eagle varsity fastpitch softball team remained unbeaten in district play this past Tuesday with a 12-4 victory over the visiting Kellyville Lady Ponies.

The run-rule win improves the Lady Eagles’ season record to 8-1 and 4-0 in the District 3A-7 standings.

The Morris squad returned to action Thursday with a trip to Sperry for a district showdown with the Sperry Lady Pirates and will close out the week at the Oilton Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

In Tuesday’s district meeting with Kellyville, the Lady Eagles opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Morris squad added six runs in their half of the second for an 8-0 lead after two innings of action.

After a scoreless third, Kellyville plated a run in the top of the fourth and added three more in the fifth for an 8-4 contest.

The Morris ladies tallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the run rule, 12-4.

The top offensive performer for the Lady Eagles on Tuesday was Briley Cagle, who finished 3 for 3 with two singles, a double, and an RBI.

The trio of Emma Duclos (2 for 3, single, double, RBI), Fire Clark (2 for 4, single, double, 3 RBIs), and Ashlyn Clevenger (2 for 4, 2 singles, 3 RBIs) also recorded multi-hit games for Morris in the district contest with two hits apiece.

The final four base hits for the Lady Eagles in the run-rule win came on singles by Kaydence Ausbrooks and Dezmond Lewis, a double by Alli Guynes, and an RBI double by Camara Casey.

Other Morris baserunners against Kellyville were Ausbrooks (error), Cagle (walk), Duclos (hit by pitch), Clark (error), Guynes (error), and Clevenger (RBI fielder’s choice).

Duclos went the distance in the circle for Morris to earn the pitching win. The senior righthander allowed four runs on five hits, walking two and striking out seven in six innings of work.
