The recent rain has added to a great growth spurt, not just of the grass, but also of gardens and flowers. As residents work to keep up with the greenery growth, the beauty of nature is seen at William “Bill” Moore’s wall of sunflowers, located on W. 6th Street and Monroe Avenue. Each year, despite some extremely dry spells, Moore has planted the sunflowers on the east end of his property alongside his vegetable garden. Moore stated he likes to give a sunflower seed away to various individuals when he visits them, and encourages them to plant them and enjoy the beauty as he does. While looking around Okmulgee, these beautiful flowers and plants were on full display, especially the Colocasia, or ‘Elephant Ear.’ Residents this week, however, are encouraged to use caution outdoors as temperatures are expected over 100 degrees before a cooling pattern comes to area over the weekend.
