Muscogee Nation Fest underway

Live entertainment planned for this weekend

It will be a busy time this weekend in the capital of the Muscogee Nation as their annual festival begins Thursday.

Sporting events that are part of the Muscogee Nation Festival began over the past weekend. Citizens participated in volleyball, horseshoes, adult basketball, cornhole, slow-pitch softball and team rope (rodeo).

The Mvskoke Nation Festival began in 1974 as a celebration of Muscogee culture and heritage and has become a major family gathering for many Muscogee families.

The 2023 festival sponsors include Muscogee Nation Gaming Enterprises, Pepsi, Tinker Federal Credit Union and Mazzio’s.

The Muscogee Nation Festival officially opens June 22. The Living Legends will be honored at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Church in Glenpool. The stomp dance begins at 7 p.m. Join for evening of fun at the fair and enjoy food from the many vendors.

The Muscogee Nation Festival Parade will take place on 6th Street in downtown Okmulgee and proceed on a route passing directly in front of the Creek Council House Museum beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25.

Live entertainment Friday evening begins at 7 p.m. with Cam, followed by Pat Green taking the Amphitheater stage at 9 p.m.

Saturday evening, Lance Gouge takes the stage at 5 p.m., The 99 South Band at 7 p.m. and the Mvskoke Fashion Show at 9 p.m.

• Cam (born Camaron Marvel Ochs; November 19, 1984) is an American country music singer and songwriter. She began her career as a songwriter, composing material for several artists including Sam Smith and Miley Cyrus. In 2010, she released her debut studio album Heartforward on an independent record label. Signing with Sony Music Entertainment, she released her debut major label EP in March 2015, Welcome to Cam Country, followed by the studio album Untamed later that same year. Her third album was The Otherside, released on Triple Tigers in 2020. Her second single “Burning House” is her most commercially successful, peaking at the number two position on Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay.

• Pat Green, a country music artist since 1995, has recorded a total of seven studio albums, including three for Republic Records and two for BNA. Fifteen of his singles have charted on Billboard Hot Country Songs, of which the highest-peaking is “Wave on Wave” (No. 3) from his gold-certified album of the same name.
