YMCA pool opens Tuesday
By JOSHUA JACKSON REPORTER

The Okmulgee Family YMCA is excited to announce the opening of the pool for the 2023 summer season.

Thanks to a generous gift from the Sam Viersen Family Foundation of $500,000, the Y will continue to support youth development and aquatic safety for the Okmulgee community for years to come.

The pool was built in 2003 and in need of many repairs. Last year, several pool pumps and motors were upgraded. Just this month, the pool plaster was refinished and other pool deck upgrades for this 235,280-gallon pool. These updates will ensure that the YMCA pool is here to serve the Okmulgee community in a safe, friendly, and refreshed state this summer and from many summers to come.

“We are the only fully public pool in Okmulgee County and are vital to our community,” Katie McElhaney, Okmulgee Family YMCA Executive Director said. “Our pool stays booked up full of activities from sunup to sundown every day all summer. We have a wonderful swimming lesson program that gives ALL kids a chance to learn how to swim, with our financial assistance we won’t turn anyone away due to inability to pay. Many children that I have personally given swim lessons to are now on our swim team. I feel so much joy when our youth find their love for water & become confident swimmers.”

Now through June 4, splash into summer at the Y and enjoy a $0 joining fee!

All YMCA members have free access to the pool.

All 9th grade – active 12th grade students with student ID (or class schedule) at Okmulgee High School have a free membership. Sign up today at the Okmulgee Family YMCA.

Join us at the pool for:

• Open Swim for Families

• Water Aerobics

• Private and Group Swim Lessons

• Youth Swim Team

• Lap Swim For hours, visit www.ymcatulsa.org/pools.
