Henryetta’s Blake Wynne sets 3A record in Long Jump

Six Okmulgee County schools competed at four different regional track and field championships last Saturday.

Three county schools were in McAlester for the Class 3A regional meet, while the other schools competed at regional meets in Madill, Okemah, and Stroud, respectively.

The Okmulgee Bulldogs were the top track and field team at the four regional meets, finishing third overall in McAlester with a team total of 63 points.

The Bulldogs edged county rival Beggs for the Top 3 spot in the team standings last Saturday in McAlester by three points with the Demons finishing fourth overall at the event.

The Morris Eagles finished 17th overall at McAlester with one team point.

In the girls division, the top county team at regionals was the Henryetta Lady Knights, who finished tied for sixth overall with Purcell with 34 team points at the Class 3A regional meet in Madill.

At McAlester, the Morris Lady Eagles were the top county girls track and field team, finishing tied for seventh with Kellyville with 29 team points.

The Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs were one point behind Morris and Kellyville in ninth with 28 points, while the two-time defending Class 3A state champion Beggs Lady Demons finihed 12th overall with 11 team points.

The Schulter Lady Bulldogs were the lone county team to compete at the Class A regional track and field championships in Okemah last Saturday, finishing 18th overall with five team points.

At the Class A regional meet in Stroud, the Dewar Lady Dragons finished 11th in the girls team standings with 25 points, while the Dewar Dragons were 17th overall in the boys team standings with four points.

In all, Okmulgee County will be sending a total of 37 individuals from five schools to this weekend’s state track and field championships at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City (Class A) and Ardmore High School (Class 3A).

The top county individual at regionals last Saturday was Henryetta senior Blake Wynne. Wynne took home a silver medal in the 100 meter dash and a gold medal in the Long Jump. In his regional championship finish in the Long Jump, Wynne broke a Class 3A state record that had stood for more than 40 years. Wynne’s gold-medal- winning jump was 24 feet, which broke Stroud’s Bobby Riley’s distance of 23 feet, 11.75 inches, which was set at the 1982 state meet.

Wynne was also part of two state qualifying relay teams at Saturday’s regional meet in Madill, running first leg for the Knights’ 400 and 800 meter relay squads which finished fifth and third, respectively.

Junior McKayla Greenhaw was top individual performer for the Lady Knights last Saturday in Madill, taking home bronze medals in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter dash, earning the Henryetta sprinter a state-qualifying spot in three events.

Camerynn Watkins was also a state qualifier for the Lady Knights last Saturday, as the freshman finished third overall in the 800 meter run. Watkins was also part of the bronze-medal-winning 3200 meter relay team that also consisted of Kenleigh Kaler, Stormi Waquie, and Kassidy Lee.

At McAlester, the Bulldogs’ top individual performers were Larry Yahola and Homer Reagor, who finished first and second, respectively, in the boys 400 meter dash. The duo was also part of the gold-medal-winning 1600 meter relay team that also featured Javin Hutchinson and Keith Talton.

The Lady Bulldogs’ top individual performer at last Saturday’s regional meet in McAlester was Amerria Fourshey, who took home a bronze medal in the 100 meter dash.

The Demons’ top individual performer at McAlester last Saturday was Evin Kemp, who took home gold medals in both the Discus and Shot Put events.

The only state qualifier for the Lady Demons last Saturday was Kadenze Coleman, who finished third overall in the Shot Put event.

The Lady Eagles’ top individual performer last Saturday in McAlester was Sutton Giddens, who took home a silver medal in the 300 meter hurdles. Giddens also snared a bronze medal as part of the Lady Eagles’ 800 meter relay team that also included Lillian Giddens, Maddie Moore, and Alexis Schell.

The Eagles’ top individual performer at the Class 3A regional meet in McAlester was Bryce Wilson, who finished sixth overall in the 3200 meter run.

At Stroud, the Lady Dragons three individuals qualify for the Class A state meet with Top 5 finishes last Saturday. Gracie Johnson earned a silver medal in the Pole Vault and was fourth overall in the High Jump to qualify for state in two events.

Kyleigh Beel qualified for State in the Pole Vault following her third-place finish at regionals, while Maikya Carter earned a spot at the Class A state meet with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Dragons’ top individual performer at regionals last Saturday was Kade Henderson, who finished fifth in the Shot Put and ninth in the Discus.

At the Class A regional track and field championships in Okemah, the top individual for the Schulter Lady Bulldogs was Alexis Hurt, who finished fourth overall in the Long Jump event.

Below are complete results from the four regional track and field championships that involved Okmulgee County schools.
