Lady Knights place 4th at regionals to qualify for state championships

Beggs, Morris to send individuals to 2-day event in Ardmore

Okmulgee County will have a total of seven representatives at next week’s Class 3A state golf championships at Lake Murray Golf Course in Ardmore.

The Henryetta Lady Knights will send its entire 4-member team to the 2-day, 36-hole, event after finishing fourth in the team standings at Tuesday’s Class 3A regional golf championships at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore.

Beggs and Morris will send individual representatives to next week’s state golf tournament. The Lady Demons will be represented by Kaitlyn Brafford and Piper Nix, who finished second and third, respectively, on the individual qualifier list, while the Lady Eagles will send Leah Ansley to the 36-hole event after finishing first on the individual qualifier list.

These three individuals punched their tickets to the state golf tournament after being one of the Top 6 individual finishers that were not on one of the Top 6 teams to place at Tuesday’s regional tournament.

The Lady Knights, who finished fourth at last year’s state golf tournament, finished Tuesday’s regional golf tournament with a team score of 401. The Henryetta linksters finished behind Christian Heritage, Holland Hall, and Tahlequah Sequoyah. Eufaula and Metro Christian rounded out the team qualifier list at Tuesday’s regional tournament in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Skylar Morris paced the Lady Knights on Tuesday, finishing with an 18-hole score of 94. Breea Stockholm was one stroke back at 95, followed by Mabrey Been at 97 and Abby Pemberton at 115.

Ansley was the top individual qualifier not on a qualifying team on Tuesday with an 18-hole score of 89, followed by Brafford and Nix with scores of 90 and 94, respectively.

Destiny Jackson also competed as an individual for the Lady Demons at Tuesday’s regional tournament, finishing with an 18-hole score of 115.

The Class 3A state golf championships are scheduled to take place Wednesday and Thursday at the Lake Murray Golf Course in Ardmore with each day consisting of 18-hole rounds.

(Editor’s Note: Former Beggs golfer Hallee Sumner was one of two Sapulpa Lady Chieftains to qualify for the Class 5A state golf championships at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club in Ardmore after finishing as the top individual qualifier not on a qualifying team at Tuesday’s Class 5A regional golf championships at Aqua Canyon Golf Course in Guthrie.)
