Lady Knights finish 2nd at golf qualifier

Beggs, Morris to send individuals to regionals

The Henryetta Lady Knights will send its 4-member varsity golf team to the Class 3A regional tournament next Tuesday at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore.

The Lady Knights punched their ticket to next week’s regional tournament after a second-place finish Tuesday at the Class 3A regional qualifier at Fountainhead Golf Course in Eufaula.

The Henryetta girls link squad carded a team total of 374 at the 18-hole event, finishing 14 strokes behind first-place finisher Christian Heritage, who carded a team score of 360 at the qualifier.

While the Lady Knights will battle 11 other teams for one of the top six finishing spots at next week’s regional tournament and a trip to the Class 3A state golf championships, four individuals from two other Okmulgee County teams will be battling other individual qualifiers for a spot at the state tournament.

The four county individual qualifiers for next week’s regional tournament include Beggs’ Kaitlyn Brafford, Destiny Jackson, and Piper Nix and Morris’ Leah Ansley.

Ansley was the top individual not on a qualifying team at Tuesday’s qualifier, finishing the 18-hole event with a score of 89.

Brafford was second on the individual qualifier list with an 18-hole score of 96, while Jackson and Nix earned the final two qualifier spots with scores of 120 and 121, respectively.

The other two individual qualifer spots at Tuesday’s qualifier at Fountainhead were Kirah Harjo of Idabel, who carded a score of 111 and Izzy Kintai of Roland, who carded a score of 115.

The top individual finishers for the Lady Knights on Tuesday were Skylar Morris and Mabrey Been, who carded 18-hole scores of 90. Breaa Stockholm finished two strokes behind the duo at 92, while Abby Pemberton shot her personal best score of 102 at the event.

The other individual scores for the Lady Demons at Tuesday’s qualifier were Elodie Most at 147 and JeiOnna Richardson at 150.

The Class 3A state golf championships will take place May 3 and 4 at Lake Murray Golf Course in Ardmore.
