Several county agencies who work hard in the fight for child abuse prevention met last Thursday on the courthouse lawn to place pinwheels in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The event was sponsored by Okmulgee County Family Resource Center (CASA) and were joined by Okmulgee/Okfuskee County Youth Services, Sen. Roger Thompson and Judge Pandee Ramirez, who spoke about the county’s foster care system. Students from Stonebridge Academy also joined in the day’s event. According to the OCFRC, nearly 3,000 children are in foster care on any given day in Oklahoma, and are victims of the most severe forms of abuse or neglect. During April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Prevention services and support developed by this collaboration can help to protect children and strengthen families. See additional photos of the event on page A10.
