Lady Pirates rout Moss to win Dewar slowpitch tourney title
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

The Preston Lady Pirate varsity slowpitch softball team took home the team championship plaque from the Dewar Slowpitch Softball Tournament this past Saturday with a 15-6 thumping of the Moss Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates swept through their Pool Play schedule, earning wins over Okmulgee (12-3), Strother (150), and tournament host Dewar (86), respectively, then notched a 10-0 win over Okemah in semifinal action Saturday to earn a spot in the tournament title game.

The host Dewar Lady Dragons finished second in Pool Play with the lone loss coming to their county foes from Preston. The two Pool Play wins for Dewar came against Okmulgee (14-1) and Strother (8-1), respectively.

The Lady Dragons began bracket play on Saturday with an 11-0 win over Meeker, then saw their tournament participation end with a heartbreaking 11-10 loss to Moss in Satur- day’s other semifinal contest.

Besides losses to Preston and Dewar, the Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs dropped their other Pool Play game last Thursday by a 6-4 margin to Strother and were on the losing end of a 4-3 loss to Moss in Saturday’s bracket play to finish 0-4 at the annual tournament.

Meeker finished fourth in Pool B, but moved up to third due to Checotah being unable to play Saturday.
