Administration and staff of the Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority were joined by County Commissioners Erik Zoellner and David Walker Tuesday to serve a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner to inmates. Held for the past three years, the meal gives those in the county facilities a taste of home, while they are away from their families or loved ones. Preparations for the dinner started early this week, in anticipation of feeding more than 450 people including county officers and staff. According to Executive Director Shannon Clark and Assistant Director Christopher Cook, as an extra touch this year, the 50 turkeys were smoked. The birds were provided again this year by Rev. Douglas Currington and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. All were able to enjoy turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, rolls, and cake. The OCCJA population expressed their surprise and thanks for the meal to all those who coordinated, prepared and served the delicious meal. See additional photos on page 4A of today’s issue.
