New champions were crowned at the 2022 Muscogee Nation Okmulgee County Basketball Tournament this past Saturday evening at the Mvskoke Dome in Okmulgee. The Preston Lady Pirates captured their ninth tournament championship since the reintroduction of the annual tournament in 2004 with a thrilling 37-32 win over the defending Morris Lady Eagles in the girls title game, while the Preston Pirates denied the Beggs Golden Demons’ bid to become only the second team to win 3 consecutive tournament titles with a 50-47 victory in the boys championship contest.
