While drunk driving is still a huge issue in our county, law enforcement agencies across the state have seen increasing numbers of drug-impaired drivers. One National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) survey indicated that as many as 1 in 4 weekend drivers had tested positive for at least one drug that could negatively affect their driving skills. According to NHTSA, as many as 44 percent of drivers killed in automobile accidents in 2016 tested positive for having drugs in their system. Their message is this: “If you feel different, you drive different”.
